Jesus was like us. He hurt like we hurt, had wants like we have wants, and felt like we feel. The way our hearts pound out of our chests when we get excited or afraid… Jesus experienced those types of natural reactions too.

When Jesus refers to himself as “the son of man” (Matthew 8:20) he isn’t just giving himself a fun, little nickname for his friends to call him. No, Jesus is telling us about his nature. He is one of us. Christ is a “people” person. Part of our tribe of existance. His blood pumps red with the same hemogloban and platelets that we have coursing through our own veins. His biology matches ours because Jesus was man.

When we read the Bible we should never take for granted the human nature of Jesus. Yes, he was God in the form of man. But he was also man living on earth as God. To finally grasp such a profound truth is to alter how we read the passages of scripture which he inspired.
