THERE IS NO END TO DISCONTENT AND WANT.

Who among us hasn’t heard the phrase, “Count your blessings?” Like a small, unrefined peppercorn rolling across an empty porcelain dish, this tiny morsel of advice may be an unwanted entrée when looking across the dinner table with covetous eyes. “You want me to do what?” One can almost hear the discontented soul’s stomach churning in disgust. “You want me to count my blessings? Preposterous!”

LOGIC COMES IN COUNTING ONE’S BLESSINGS.

While common sense may argue that the best solution to desire is the fulfillment of one’s needs, both sacred scripture and science suggest that there might be another alternative. When individual need can’t be met, an attitude of gratidue may be the next best solution. After all, appreciation for the good things one already has may be quickest way to thwart an agitated appetite. When humans focus on the dish set before them, they can’t easily cast glances to the plate of another.

SET YOUR SIGHTS ON WHAT YOU DO HAVE.

The next time your eyes start to wander off your own posessions and onto the bountiful blessings of someone else, consider this advice handed down to you. Feast upon this wisdom and “count your blessings.” It may just surprise you the meal in which you already have been given and the buffet platter from which you eat.
